PURPOSE: To efficiently remove particles of <=1 μm from a particulate catalyst by mixing the catalyst with a surfactant, a hydrocarbon and a liq. such as a polar protic solvent, agitating the mixture and separating the liq. phase contg. particles of <=1 μm. CONSTITUTION: A particulate catalyst material is mixed with a surfactant or a surface active material, a hydrocarbon and a liq. selected from polar protic solvents and a mixture of them to prepare a mixture. This mixture is agitated to increase the concn. of particles of <=1 μm in the liq. phase, the liq. phase contg. particles of <=1 μm is separated from the particulate catalyst material and the particles of <=1 μm are removed. The particulate catalyst material is, e.g. a cobalt-titania catalyst of 1-200 μm particle diameter. The hydrocarbon is, e.g. a wax obtd. by the Fischer-Tropsch method and the liq. is, e.g. water or a polyol. |
