The proposal is for a starting device for internal combustion engines in which the starter pinion (13) is fitted on a thrust rod (12) and secured by a nut (15). The nut (15) has an axially sprung attachment at its surface (19) lying against the starter pinion (13) in order to distribute the forces acting via the nut (15) on the thread (16) of the thrust rod (12) uniformly over all the threads and thus reduce the high notch effect on the first thread base of the thrust rod (12) generated by mechanical tension peaks during the starting cycle to such an extent that the thrust rod (12) does not break.
