Prepn. bonding material contg. carbon matrix with ceramic - by mixing carbon-contg. binder with matrix, carbonising and further heating

Bonding material (I) is prepd. from two components, in which one component is a universal matrix of carbon with powdered ceramic stored as further components. A carbon-contg. binder is used as the starting material for the matrix and is mixed, after addn. of a solvent, with powder stored in the matrix. The amt. of binder used is measured so that carbon in the final prod. is not more than 20 wt.% and the mixt. is processed under low pressure and under heat above the softening temp. of the binder to a which is then carbonised and further heating in an inert atmos. to give the desired prod.. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) has good conductivity and thermal shock resistance and can be used as a chip carrier, in the electronics industry or as a semi-conductor, also suitable as a wall material for fusion reactors.
