Process for the prodn. of a powder (I) from recycled paint residues (II) comprises removing the water and organic solvent from (II) and pulverising the residue (III). Process for the prodn. of a filled, sprayable dispersion (IV) comprises mixing organic solvent-free aq. dispersion(s) in succession with adhesion promoters and/or surfactants and/or crosslinkers and/or preservatives and/or anti-skinning additives and/or plasticisers and/or thixotropic agents and/or foam suppressants, and then adding and dispersing (I). (III) is pref. a filter cake; water and solvent are removed with the aid of a filter press, centrifuge, calender, vacuum or suction filter, and by heating, esp. above 100 deg.C; (III) is pulverised in a ball mill to a particle size of 30-50 microns; plasticiser is bitumen. USE/ADVANTAGE - The dispersion from (2) is useful for coating metal (pref. alloy) surfaces, esp. cataphoretically-treated surfaces; the coating is useful for underbody protection and/or as an anti-drumming and/or anticorrosion coating for vehicles, esp. automobiles (claimed). The process enables waste paint residues (e.g. from spray cabinets) to be usefully recycled to give coatings for the above applications which are cold resistant to -40 deg.C and heat resistant to 160 deg.C.
