HIGH SPEED PACKET AND FREQUENCY SWITCH

PURPOSE: To improve flexibility in a network by permitting only a stream to be transmitted to a corresponding fiber leading to an outside from a switch within various kinds of frequencies obtained by the frequency conversion of respective optical packet streams. CONSTITUTION: The optical stream g1 of the extracted packet is transmitted to a passive power divider SS1 and divided into m-number parts so as to be introduced by a frequency conversion block FK11. One of the packets is converted into the frequency which is assigned to be the same as the one in the fiber leading to the outside from the switch and the whole remaining ones are converted into an annulment frequency. Then, the packet k11 of the new frequency is combined again in order to form the stream in output optical fibers u1-un together with the packets k12-k1n from another frequency conversion block in a passive re-combining device. Thus, flexibility is enhanced in the communication network.
