In a process for coking powdered gas coal in a bed of hot powdered coke fluidized by inert gas and air, fresh powdered coal is fed intermittently to the bed to cool the bed to a temperature below the softening temperature of the coal (e.g. 250 DEG to 400 DEG C.), the temperature of the bed being then allowed to rise to a value above the degasification temperature of the coal, an amount of coke powder corresponding to the coal charge being removed after degasification. During the heating-up stage, the temperature rise should be at 5 DEG to 10 DEG C. per minute over the plastic range of the coal, i.e. 400 DEG to 450 DEG C. |
