PURPOSE:To perform determination quickly and simply by performing electrolysis for electrochemically active material other than serotonin and its metabolite, which is contained in a specimen, and serotonin and its metabolite which a constant-potential electrolysis device and a coulometer which are set at specified potentials, respectively. CONSTITUTION:An electrochemical material other than serotonin and its metabolite, which is contained in a specimen, undergoes electrolysis in a constant-potential electrolysis device wherein the potential of a working electrode is set at +0.1 - +0.6V (silver/silver chloride reference electrode standard). Then, serotonin and its metabolite undergo electrolysis with a coulometer or an amperometer which are set at a potential that is higher than the potential of the working electrode of the constant-potential electrolysis device by 0.01 - 0.5V. When the detector is the coulometer, the determination is performed based on the quantity of electricity required for the electrolysis. When the detector is the amperometer, the determination is performed based on the current. |
