GRADUALLY RELEASING PREPA- RATION OF WATER-SOLUBLE PEPTIDE

PURPOSE: To obtain a sustained release preparation in the form of tablets or microgranules by including a medicine, especially a water-soluble peptide into a biodegradable and biocompatible polymer base. CONSTITUTION: A biodegradable and biocompatible polymer base material (e.g. polylactide-coglycolide) is dissolved in a solvent which does not dissolve a medicine compound and a medicine (e.g. somatostatin) dissolved in a solvent which is insoluble to the polymer and the medicine solution is added to and dispersed into the above solution and a phase inducer is added to the produced dispersion to induce formation of microgranules. Then, an oil-in-water type emulsion is added to the mixture to cure the microgranules and the cured microgranules are recovered or an water-in-oil type emulsion containing the medicine in one phase and containing a polymer in other phase is vigorously mixed with an excess aqueous medium containing an emulsifying substance or a protective colloid to form an oil-in-water type emulsion and the organic solvent is eliminated therefrom and the produced microgranules are isolated.
