摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the bright display of the color of a light absorber, such as black, and specific colors by providing color filters on the front side substrate of a liquid crystal layer and the light absorber on the rear side substrate, respectively. CONSTITUTION:The film-like liquid crystal layer 18 formed by dispersing and holding a liquid crystal in a resin matrix is crimped between substrates 11 and 13 with a pair of electrodes 12, 14. The refractive index of the liquid crystal and the refractive index of the resin matrix are so selected that light transmits the liquid crystal layer when the refractive index of the liquid crystal coincides with the refractive index of the resin matrix and that the light scatters when the refractive index of the liquid crystal does not coincide with the refractive index of the resin matrix. The color filters 15 are provided on the front side substrate 13 and the light absorber 16 is provided on the rear side substrate 11 side. A colored louver is used as the light absorber 16.
