<p>An exhaust gas driven turbocharger includes a center housing (12) comprising a circumferentially extending annular wall (34) enclosing a cavity (36) in which the bearings (40) supporting the turbocharger shaft (24) are mounted. The center housing (12) also includes a separate annular member (48) which extends circumferentially around the shaft (24) and extends radially from the circumferentially extending wall (34) to the shaft (24). A cavity (56) is defined within the annular member (48) which receives coolant from the vehicle coolant system, to thereby control heat transfer from the turbine to the center housing (12) and the bearings (40) contained therewithin.</p> |
