Process and device for making solder rods with a copper content of at least 60 % wt. A block of the alloy is shaped by an extrusion press into a single wire with a maximum diameter of 10 mm at a temperature between 540 and 680 DEG C. After emerging from the press said wire is quenched to a temperature of below 250 DEG C and stored or immediately processed further. After conductive heating to a temperature of between 200 and 280 DEG C the wire is immediately taken to a multi-stage reducing rolling machine and rolled down to the final cross-section with a degree of deformation of a maximum of 25 % at each stage.
