A turret punch press has a motor (5) which drives a rotatable shaft (8) to which is keyed a gear ring (9). Separately journalled for rotation on the shaft (8) is a turret (4) around the periphery of which are mounted a plurality of rotatable tool holders (10). Each tool holder has a peripheral gear which is permanently engaged with the gear ring (9). By driving the shaft (8) and holding the turret (4) stationary, the tool holders (10) can be rotated about their own axes. A pneumatic, electromagnetic or hydraulic clutch can be operated selectively to couple the gear ring (9) and the turret (4), in which position the turret rotates with the shaft, so allowing indexing of the position of the tool holders. |
