The vehicle seat can be converted into a seat for a child. It has a restraining element (8). In the normal position, the restrainign element forms the leading part of the seat surface (10) and in the converted position is an energy absorbing restraint. The side parts (6) in the lower swivel position are securable by a locking device which is releasable by a rotation of the restraining element about the axis. USE/ADVANTAGE - Convertible vehicle seat in which the conversion movement is quickly and easily achieved.
