A specimen support platform 30 is raised by an inflatable bladder 56 towards the upper face 33 of a base element 10 until spherical guide plugs 34 are located in boxes 12 of the face 33 to accurately position the specimen-carrying surface 36. Side tracks 14 are provided to support the platform 30 so that the bladder may be removed without disturbing the platform. Interengaging guide posts 34 and sockets 16, respectively mounted on the platform 30 and the face 33, facilitate positioning of the platform 30, the diameter of the sockets, being large enough to permit lateral shifting of the posts 34. |
