PURPOSE:To reduce connection loss by filling the connection part between a fixed-side switch element and a moving-side switch element with a refractive index matching agent. CONSTITUTION:This optical switch is equipped with a plastic member 7 which covers the connection part between both the optical switch elements 4 and 5, the refractive index matching agent 9 which fills into the plastic member 7 and has a refractive index nearly equal to that of an optical fiber 6, and a driving mechanism P which moves the moving-side switch element from outside the plastic member 7. Light emitted from an end surface of one optical fiber, therefore, passes through a material 9 temporarily and enters the other optical fiber, but the continuity of the refractive index is obtained without forming any interface between opposite end surfaces of both the optical fibers. Consequently, the connection loss can be reduced. |
