[Also in Division G2] A light conducting device comprises an optical fibre bundle 20 enclosed in a flexible sheath 22, and at each end of the bundle a ferrule 24, which has a flared end 28 to facilitate insertion of the fibre bundle, and an intermediate collar 30. Indentations 32 are formed in the ferrule 24 to secure it to the fibre bundle and the free end 26 of each ferrule is crimped. As shown in Fig. 2, three such light conductors transmit light from the headlights 14 and a parking light 16 of a car to a display housing 12 mounted on a mudguard 10. Three lenses 42 are mounted in separate apertures 38 in a display panel 34 of the housing. One ferrule 24 of each light conductor is inserted into a respective aperture 38 until it enters a cylindrical cavity 46 in the associated lens 42. The other ends of the light conductors are mounted in sockets to receive light from the car lights. In a second embodiment the light conductors are used to convey light from a single lamp to a plurality of parts of a car interior, for example, an ash tray or cigarette lighter. The ends of the light conductors adjacent the lamp are assembled in a single ferrule. |
