PURPOSE:To improve the quality of a color character part by providing a means for deciding an achromatic color part being in the vicinity of a chromatic color part of an input color image signal. CONSTITUTION:A picture element color deciding part 1101 generates a BLP signal for showing a fact that every picture element is black, a COLP signal for showing a fact that it has a tinge of color, and an UNKP signal for showing a fact that which it is unknown, and sends them to an area processing part 1102. The area processing part 1102 decides the BLP, COLP, UNKP and G signals at every area, in areas of 5X5 and eliminates an error, generates BL, COL and UNK, and also, generates a CAN signal for canceling the BL signal. In such a way, an achromatic color part being in the vicinity of a chromatic color part is decided, a black component is recorded distinctly in a color character edge and it does not occur that the quality of a reproducing image is deteriorated, and the quality of the reproducing image is improved. |
