PURPOSE: To lessen flinging at a high track density and to make resolution better by providing the recording medium with a non-satd. magnetic layer adjacent to a rigid magnetic recording layer. CONSTITUTION: The magnetic medium for longitudinal recording includes a magnetic image layer 16 cooperating with the rigid magnetic recording layer 12. These layers are separated from each other by a nonmagnetic buffer layer 14. The image layer 16 may be a lower layer as well. The magnetic thickness of the magnetic image layer 16 is preferably larger than the thickness of the magnetism of the rigid magnetic recording layer 12. The magnetic thickness suitable for the magnetic image layer 16 is assumed to equal to the product of a geometrical thickness and residual magnetization and is thereby the thickness larger by about 30% than the thickness of the rigid magnetic recording layer 12. The thickness of the nonmagnetic layer is preferably within a range from 0.5 to 2 times of the effective fly height of a magnetic head 24. As a result, the magnetic medium for longitudinal direction recording for suppressing an off-track flinging signal is obtd. |
