PURPOSE:To extremely advantageously obtain the subject high quality compounds in good yield by subjecting aminophenols and butyradehydes to reductive alkylating reaction, separating a catalyst and then distilling the resultant reaction solution under specific temperature conditions. CONSTITUTION:Aminophenols and butyraldehyde [at 1:(2.1-2.7) molar ratio] are subjected to reductive alkylating reaction in the presence of a reducing catalyst in an organic solvent while continuously feeding organic carboxylic acids (in an amount of 0.05-5 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. charged aminophenols) by keeping the reaction mixture at 10-60 deg.C under 5-20kg/cm<2>G hydrogen pressure. The reducing catalyst is then separated from the resultant reaction solution by filtration and the obtained reaction solution is distilled by keeping the column bottom temperature at <=160 deg.C. Thereby, the unreacted butyraldehyde and organic solvent are distilled away from the column top. On the other hand, the bottom is distilled by keeping the column bottom temperature at <=230 deg.C to afford N,N-dibutylaminophenols, which are useful as an intermediate for dyes, etc. |
