A plate-cutting machine, incorporating a frame 1; a bottom cutter 2, which is supported on the frame; a top cutter 3, which is provided with a cutting edge 4 and is joined to the frame so as to be moved by means of the power members 5, 6 relative to the bottom cutter; and a supporting device 7 for supporting the plate to be cut close to the cutting site. The supporting device 7 is, in the longitudinal direction of the cutting edge 4, convexly curved and extended essentially over the whole length of the cutting edge; and the top cutter 3 and the supporting device interact such that the point of support of the supporting device against the plate is moved with the cutting site and close thereto. <IMAGE>
