[Also in Division C3] An article comprising a metal substrate having a polymeric release coating on the surface thereof, the coating comprising a continuous phase of an inert fluorocarbon polymer having a passive non-adherent surface in which there is a discontinuous phase of smoothsurfaced spheroidal or spherical vitreous beads e.g. glass, Pbo, CdO, the beads having diameters in the range of from 10 to 500 microns, a substantially single layer of the beads being embedded in the polymer so that adjacent to, or at the coating surface, there are at least 100 beads per square inch may be prepared by coating the substrate with a composition comprising a suspensoid of polymer and beads in a dispersion vehicle. The release coating may comprise a dried, fused layer of polymer containing the beads and bonded to the substrate with the aid of a primer and a second layer of dried, fused polymer bonded to and uniformly covering the first layer, the combined thicknesses of the two layers being approximately equal to the average diameter of the beads. In the Examples steel fry pans, aluminium cooking fry pans and aluminium panels were coated with compositions comprising polytetrafluoroethylene, water. CrO 3 , H 3 PO 4 and glass beads.</p> |
