PURPOSE:To suppress reduction in RF output and to improve traveling durability by providing projections of specified height and specified distribution density with specified intervals on the surface of a back layer formed on the opposite side of the substrate to the magnetic layer to reduce transfer from the back layer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording medium consists of a nonmagnetic supporting body 1, first magnetic layer 2, second magnetic layer 4 and back coat layer 3. Projections of 0.05 - 0.6mum height with 10000 - 100000 /cm2 interval are formed on the surface of the back coat layer 3. The back coat layer 3 is formed by applying a coating material comprising a binder and nonmagnetic powder on the supporting body 1. As for the nonmagnetic powder, inorg. powder such as oxides of Si, Ti and Al, as well as org. powder such as resin and pigment can be used. By using carbon black with this powder, traveling property of the medium can be stabilized. |
