PURPOSE:To obtain an electrophotographic printer having high total throughput by setting a set temperature to a lowest temperature sufficient to allow a fixing unit to reach the lower limit of a temperature range after time necessary to convey a printing sheet to the unit is elapsed. CONSTITUTION:A fixing unit 12 is heated by a heater 13, and so controlled as to become a range of temperatures TM-TL, When the temperature of the unit during heating reaches a Tp, heating by the heater 13 is continued, possibility of start of printing is notified to a printer controller 11. If video data for one page is provided, a command of start of printing is rapidly output to start printing. However, the temperature of the unit 12 at the time of start of printing is lower than the temperature TL, and predetermined conveying time is required until a printing sheet is conveyed to reach the unit 12. The temperature of the unit 12 upon reaching is raised to a range capable of fixing. Accordingly, when the sheet reaches the unit, fixing is simultaneously conducted. Therefore, first printing time and recovery time after jam is released can be shortened, and total throughput of a printer can be improved. |
