Method for manufacturing pistons of miniaturised diodes, including an axial stalk of very short length extended by a transverse head, consisting in previously producing a segment (42) of a cylindrical wire (20) including a central core and an outer sheath, both of them metallic, by sectioning a length of this wire between two bushes (33, 35), each equipped with a bore of diameter equal to that of the wire and receiving one extremity of this wire in the extension of one another, the bores (32, 34) of these bushes being, in the first place, put into alignment before, in the second place, a transversal deflection motion of one of the bushes with respect to the other causes the sectioning of the wire and the formation of the segment, then in transferring the bush containing the segment thus sectioned opposite an anvil (54) equipped with an axial channel (52) of the same diameter as the wire placed in the extension of the bore (34) of the bush (35), in engaging, in the bore containing the segment, a riveting head (39), causing penetration then partial withdrawal of this segment outside the channel of the anvil over a distance of wire just necessary for forming the head (5) of the piston (3), the remaining part of the segment, within the channel of the anvil, constituting the stalk (4) of the piston, the projecting part being shaped by a counter-riveting head (44) including, in its face opposite the end of the segment, an imprint (45) the profile of which corresponds to that of the head, the counter-riveting head being, for this purpose, given a movement towards the anvil along the axis of the segment, counter to that of the riveting head. According to the invention, this method is characterised in that, during the formation of the head of the piston in the imprint of the counter-riveting head, an opposing force continues to be exerted on the opposite end of the stalk of the piston, by means of the riveting head. <IMAGE>
