The subject of the invention is a system for assembling parts such as shelves, comprising many-sided posts and square or rectangular-sectioned connecting bars which are simply inserted in the posts, the system being characterised in that said posts are hollow and polygonal in cross section, at least one side (4) having at least one hole (10, 11) for the insertion of an assembly projection (13, 14) formed at the ends of the bars (12) and in that the parts are assembled by a combination of a head-and-neck joint (10, 11; 13, 14) with a locking means consisting of two lateral flanges (8) formed on the side (4) of the post on either side of the hole (10, 11) to prevent the bar (12) from rotating about its axis after insertion. <IMAGE>
