PURPOSE:To make it possible to smoothly feed even such special types of sheets of paper as envelops without using a weight in electronic copying machines and suchlike equipment by providing a sheet feeder with a mechanism such as that the sheets in a stack are fed out one by one from below by means of a roller while the passage of the stacked sheets being controlled by a gating member. CONSTITUTION:The gap between a feed roller 21 and a gate claw 22 is adjusted to zero by means of an adjusting screw 26 for the claw 22. As the roller 21 rotates in the direction indicated by the arrow, the forward edge of a sheet advances into between the roller 21 and the claw 21 and the claw 22 retracts upward to open the gate to allow the passage of a sheet. A spring 25 exerts a pressure on the claw 22 to prevent the feeding of two sheets at one time and the gate opening is determined automatically according to the thickness of the sheets to be handled. A supply unit 30 is so designed that short sheets 37 and long sheets 38 can be selectively loaded for feeding. A loading table 31 is positioned to have an angle of inclination of 13 deg. and its forward end extends beneath of the gate. A rear end controlling member 33 is movably disposed on the loading table 31 so that a rear end controlling section 33a and a sloping section 33b control the rear ends of sheets 37 and the rear ends of sheets 37 above the height move onto a rear stage 33c. |
