1,113,626. Ball joints. SOC. ANON. ANDRE CITROEN. 4 Aug., 1965 [6 Aug., 1964], No. 33436/65. Heading E2F. The variation in load on the ball 3a of a ball joint is utilised to cause a suction effect whereby grease is drawn from a reservoir to lubricate the joint. In one form, the ball is mounted in a metal or plastics seating 4 secured by a screwed flange 6 in the casing 5 and a conical spring washer 10 supports the seating 4, with variation of load the spring is compressed and allowed to expand alternately thereby drawing grease along passages 9, 5a from a reservoir 8 and forcing it through an orifice 4a. A rubber or plastics cover 7 forms part of the reservoir. In another form, the spring 10 is dispensed with and the lower wall of the seating 4 is concave on its underside and is deformed sufficiently under load to produce the suction effect. |
