Device for measuring the tension of a moving ribbon, and corresponding test apparatus. The field of the invention is that of measuring the tension in ribbons in motion, especially printer ink ribbons, as well as any other type of ribbon (tape), in a cassette or otherwise. The object is to provide a mechanical device for measuring the tension of a ribbon in motion, making it possible to continuously read the value of the said tension, directly and exactly, whilst recreating the true drive conditions of a ribbon in a printer, or in any other appliance. A complementary object of the invention is to provide a cassette testing apparatus which does not require the continual presence of an operator, and makes it possible to test most types of cassette. These objects are achieved, according to the invention, by a mobile return assembly (20) for the moving ribbon, interacting with an elastic return means (23) and with a means (20) for measuring the tension in the ribbon by reading the position of the said mobile assembly. <IMAGE>
