The televison system includes a number of subscribers television receivers (10, 11) connected individually by cable (20, 21) to a multiple transmission television transmitter station (30). The receivers include a transmitter sending the identity of the customer to the central station using a keyboard (13), in conjunction with a card reader (12). The transmitting station has the facility to transmit a large number of different programmes simultaneously, to meet the requests of subscribers. transmission is achieved using laser light passed by optical fibre calbes.
