PURPOSE:To improve precision by eliminating disturbance in detecting the shape of a steel material by radiant light, by applying an external circumference tracking method by processing a data group showing radiation intensity by histogram arithmetic and spatial differential arithmetic. CONSTITUTION:Radiant light on the detection line 3a of a red-heated steel plate 1 is image formed through a lens 2 on a photoelectric element group 3, whose output is amplified and then quantized into bits by a quantizing device 5 to be stored in a memory 16. Although a blur due to reflection, scattering, etc., from a circumferential body appears at the external circumference 9c of the steel plate, this part is at low temperature, so a valley having a minimum frequency on a temperature histogram is regarded as a threshold level to eliminate a part 9'c in binary-coding process, thus eliminating the blur. Then, a data group is processed by spatial differential arithmetic 18 to emphasize only the external circumference edge of the steel plate because the external circumference edge part has a greater temperature difference than a scale 9a and a over-heated part 9b. External track arithmetic 19 is performed to find the maximum value of the differential value as a track, thus detecting the shape of the steel plate. |
