The method is used in orthopaedic and traumatological practice. It is technically easy to perform and may be used in the pre-surgical period. It affords precise determination of the anatomic sizes. According to the method, a preliminary imaging of the neck in a plane, vertical to the surface of measurement is performed. The test subject is orientated along the geometric axis of the neck in the said plane. The image of the test subject and the neck in the plane of measurement are produced, the two images are superimposed, and afterwards the anatomic diameter is determined.
