The apparatus comprises a seat located in the middle of the apparatus on which the rider (driver) is placed in a semi-couched position, a drive shaft located on a chassis (10), two cranks (52) for rotationally driving the drive shaft which are located at the ends of the drive shaft, two pedals (24 and 25) mounted on the operating cranks on either side of the ends of the shaft, two operating bars (41) fixed pivotably to the floor on each side of the seat so that they can be moved by hand backwards and forwards, two connecting rods (33 and 34) located on each side of the pedals and fixed on the one hand to these pedals by their first end and, on the other hand, to the operating bars by their second end.
