Albocyclin dervatives of formula (I) are new. In (I) R1 = H. R2 = H, NR'R", or SR', R' = 1-8C (hydroxy)alkyl, 1-8C alkyl-O-glycosyl, or H. R' = 1-8C cyl, or H. R2 is preferably NHCH2-CH2O beta -D-GLc, NHCH2-CH2OH, NHCH2-CH2Obeta-D-GlcAc4, N(Ac)CH2-CH2OAc, SCH2CH3 or SCH2CH2OH. Preparation of (I) is also claimed, in which Streptomyces spec. DSM 5469 is cultivated, albocyclin of formula (II) isolated and then derivatised. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) has antiviral activity, low toxicity, better solubility and can be used as antiviral agents in the treatment of influenza and rhino viruses.
