PURPOSE:To easily produce the subject compound in high conversion and selectivity by using a catalyst comprising a metal oxide containing Ga or Ta, Bi and Mo as essential components and contacting the catalyst with a gaseous mixture containing propane, O2 and NH3 at a high temperature. CONSTITUTION:The metal oxide catalyst used in the present process is a composition expressed by formula I (A is Na, K, Rb, etc.; B is Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Se, Y, La, Ce, etc.; C is B, P, Sb, Se, etc.; D is Ca or Ta; a is 0-0.2; b is 0-0.5; c is 0-0.3; d is 0.01-2; e is 0.01-3; f is 0.1-5; x is number of O atoms corresponding to the oxide formed by bonding the above components) and containing Ga or Ta, Bi and Mo as essential components, e.g. the metal oxide expressed by the experimental formula II or formula III. A gaseous mixture containing propane, O2 and NH3 is brought into contact with the catalyst at 400-700 deg.C to effect the ammoxidation of propane and obtain the objective compound. The above catalyst can be produced by an arbitrary conventional process. |
