PURPOSE:To improve mechanical properties such as tensile strength and tensile modulus by irradiating a carbon fiber produced by baking at >= a specified temperature with electron rays under a specified condition. CONSTITUTION:A carbon fiber produced by calcination at >=1000 deg.C is irradiated with electron rays having >=500Kv, especially 700-2000Kv within 100 Mrad, especially 1500-100 Mrad. As the objective fiber, a carbon fiber or a graphitized fiber produced by carbonization or graphitization at 1400-2000 deg.C for about 10-300sec. is suitable. |
