<p>A system is described for controlling a drag torque applied to a clutch (2) at release of an accelerator pedal (27) at low speeds. The drag torque (Td) is compensated to take account of variation in engine torque at the low engine speeds at which the drag torque is applied, to maintain the drag torque substantially constant.</p>
