The mechanical or hydraulic press has a deep drawing facility. Alternatively the deep drawing stage of the multistage press has the holder (7) for the sheet metal blank (6) actuated by a device (11) which is in turn actuated by a pressure medium in a piston-cylinder unit (12). The upper tool (8) is pressed downwards onto the lower tool (5) by the main ram (9). The rate of descent of the main ram (9) is controlled by means of two hydraulic cylinders (33). The upper part (37) of each cylinder (33) is connected by a pipe to the lower part (38). During the first part of the stroke of the main ram () the pressure on both sides of each piston is equalised. As the ram approaches the end of its stroke a valve in the connecting pipe of each cylinder (33) is closed so that a downwards acceleration is imposed on the ram (9). USE - Deep drawing presses.
