PURPOSE:To make it possible to prevent a nickel-hydrogen secondary battery from being deteriorated in its cyclic life due to short circuit wherein hydrogen occulated alloy in a rear earth metal series including Mn, is used as a negative electrode by using a separator the density of which is >=70/m<2> and <=100g/m<2>. CONSTITUTION:A battery is made up out of a negative electrode mainly composed of a hydrogen occulated alloy the composition of which is represented by an equation Ln-Nix-Mny-Az (where Ln represents a signal lanthanum or the mixture of rear earth metal elements including La, A represents aluminum, at least, one kind of cobalts, 4.8<=X+Y+Y<=5.2), a positive electrode mainly composed of a nickel compound, and out of a separator the weight per unit area of which is >=70g/m<2> and <=100g/m<2>. As Ln, a single lanthanum (La) or a rear earth metal element including La way be used, practically a mesh metal can be used, the mesh metal represented by Lm wherein the quantity of Ce is reduced to a figure less than 10wt.%, but the quantity of La is relatively increased up to 40 to 50%, shall be used, if desirable, in particular. By this constitution, short circuit can be prevented without reducing the capacity of the battery. |
