A porous shaped body containing an ionexchange synthetic resin is made by sintering a mixture of carbon, the ion-exchange synthetic resin and a thermoplastic synthetic material, which is present in an amount sufficient to form a cohesive skeletal structure after sintering, the heating being terminated before melting causes the thermoplastic synthetic material to adhere to the ion exchange synthetic resin. The mixture may also contain a filler which can be removed by dissolving it out of the shaped body or which can remain therein. In an example, the sintered mixture consists of equal proportions of polyethylene and a sulphonated styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer together with varying amounts of carbon. |
