PURPOSE:To restrain a black level to be low and to set the thickness of a liquid crystal layer so that contrast may be optimum by shielding a part other than a part where an image or a character, etc., is actually displayed from light by the use of a light shielding film. CONSTITUTION:The black light shielding film 3 is formed in an area corresponding to the part where a transparent electrode 4 does not exist at all on the periphery of a screen or the electrode 4 exists only on one side in a liquid crystal element for display. Namely, it is because the thickness of the liquid crystal layer is different between a display part where the transparent electrode 4 exists and the periphery part where the electrode 4 does not exist or it exists only on one side of a substrate that the contrast differs between the display part and the periphery part. By forming the black light shielding film 3 on the periphery other than the display part, the transmission of light is prevented from being increased on the periphery and the thickness of the liquid crystal layer is set by observing only the display part so that the contrast may be optimum. Thus, the excellent contrast is obtained all over the screen. |
