The present invention as disclosed provides novel insecticidally active N'-substituted-N,N'-diacylhydrazines of the general formula: <IMG> wherein X and X', which may be the same or different, are selected from O, S or NR, R1 is a (C3-C10) branched chain alkyl group or a (C1-C4) straight chain alkyl group substituted with one or two (C3-C6) cycloalkyl groups; A and B, which may be the same or different, are selected from (a) unsubstituted or substituted naphthyl groups; and (b) unsubstituted or substituted phenyl groups, and R and R' are hydrogen or a (C1-C6) alkyl group; and agronomically acceptable salts thereof. Also provided are insecticidal compositions containing such N'-substituted-N,N'-diacylhydrazines as the active ingredient, together with an agronomically acceptable carrier; and methods of using such compositions to control insects, especially insects of the orders Lepidoptera and Coleoptera.
