<p>In order to avoid the decomposition of the calcium carbonate by the solutions of acid-reacting aluminum salts used for the precipitation and fixing of the resin size in the sizing of calcium carbonate-con-taining papers with resin size dispersions, the procedure is as follows: An aqueous colloidal solution of homogeneous aluminum hydroxide is prepared which contains 0.1 to 50 g/liter of aluminum hydroxide and has a pH of 6 to 8. This colloidal solution is mixed with the paper pulp or the resin size dispersion under turbulent flow conditions during or immediately after its formation. To prepare the colloidal solution, an aqueous solution which contains 1 to 40 g/liter of an acidreacting aluminum salt can either be mixed under turbulent flow conditions in a stoichiometric ratio with an aqueous solution which contains 1 to 50 g/liter of at least one alkaline-reacting substance, or it can be passed over an anion exchanger in the OH form.
