PURPOSE:To easily obtain a high output power laser and enable the use of a medium of a smaller absorption coefficient for excitation light by irradiating only part of the cylindrical lasing medium rotating around a central axis with the excitation light. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical laser medium 1 comprising a hollow Nd: YAG crystal is irradiated at the side thereof with excitation light guided from a semiconductor laser through optical fibers 2, and emitted laser light 24 is taken out from a resonator composed of a total reflecting mirror 21, an output mirror 22, and a reflecting mirror 23 in the direction of an arrow 25. The medium 1 is heated by the excitation light and the emitted laser light, and local temperature is prevented by rotating the cent axis 3 through gears 20, 18 by a motor 19 and directing cooling water along arrows 12-17. Further, the length of the medium 1 may be increased for increasing the laser output whereby the excitation light and the emitted laser light can be made more parallel in their polarization directions to improve excitation efficiency. |
