PURPOSE:To improve a compression ratio and to keep the continuity of picture elements by retrieving the continuous direction of picture elements and executing interpolation by using original picture elements in upper, lower, left, and right lines for interpolation in the case of decoding a sub-Nyquist sampled coded image. CONSTITUTION:In a receiving side circuit, sampling frequency is returned to an original frequency by a '0' inserting circuit 16 and the original frequency is inputted to a difference circuit 22 through a buffer circuit 20. The circuit 22 finds out differences in respective directions and inputs the differences to a deciding circuit 24. The circuit 24 detects the direction having the minimum difference and an interpolating circuit 26 interpolates picture elements in the interpolation direction based upon the output of the circuit 24. Thus, the interpolating direction is found out by using corresponding picture elements existing in four lines; upper, lower, right, and left lines, adjacent to the interpolating point and the picture elements existing in the interpolating direction are interpolated. |
