PURPOSE:To suppress the generation of a color discrimination error and to attain proper image processing by inhibiting the operation of a color discriminating means when an edge detecting means detects the edge of an image and automatically selecting and executing color processing or monochromatic processing in accordance with the discriminated result of the color discriminating means. CONSTITUTION:The color image processor is provided with an image reading means 400 for scanning and reading out a visible image on an original sheet, the color discriminating means 80 for processing image information decomposed to plural basic colors which is obtained from the means 400 and automatically discriminating whether the image color is practically monochromatic or not, the edge detecting means 90 for processing the image information and detecting the edge of the image, a discrimination inhibiting means 83 for inhibiting the operation of the means 80 when the means 90 detects the edge of the image, and an electronic control means 50 for automatically selecting and executing color processing or monochromatic processing in accordance with the discriminated result of the means 80. Thus, a color image can be highly accurately, correctly and automatically discriminated from an achromatic image. Consequently, proper image processing corresponding to the sort of an image is executed. |
