PURPOSE:To attain high brightness by providing a polarizing means for causing a phase difference between the P wave and the S wave of incident light on an incident light side where light from a light source is made incident on a liquid crystal panel. CONSTITUTION:A video signal formed by a television main body is inputted in the liquid crystal panels 1R, 1B and 1G of the respective colors and the separated light beams of three colors from the light source 2 are controlled to be transmitted to form a projected image. Since the incident light beams on the liquid crystal panels 1R, 1B and 1G are made incident as the light having the phase difference previously caused between the P wave and the S wave by band polarizing dichroic mirrors 3R and 3B or band polarizing filter 4G, and S wave is transmitted as to a polarizing plate to reduce the absorption of heat. Thus, the high brightness is attained. |
