A phase-locked, single mode fibre bundle system consisting of: (a) an input micro lens array (2), which segments the input laser beam (1), into segments (5), which are focused into a hexagonal array of foci; (b) a closely packed array of optically polished ends of said fibres (4), which are hexagonally packed to match the array of foci produced by said micro lens array (2); (c) a loosely bound central section of said fibre bundle which allows for efficient coolant (10) flow amongst said fibres; (d) a closely packed output aperture composed of optically polished ends of said fibres. |
