Ring laser gyro achieves increased resolution

In the appts. the direction and speed of interference patterns produced by oppositely circulating light beams indicate the gyro rotation direction and speed. The patterns are detected by photodiodes feeding measurement signals to an evaluation circuit. A number n of photodiodes is arranged on the output coupling prism at equal intervals in a half interference pattern separation. Each n voltages of 180 deg. mutual phase shift are generated and fed to the evaluation circuit using two or more photodiodes and n resistances.
