Voice announcement means (48) are provided for announcing to a user how many facsimile messages are stored. Information regarding the header for each selected facsimile message is also provided (62). All or selected parts of the facsimile message may be selected for forwarding (66). A log of facsimile messages stored in the central repository can be forwarded (66). Information regarding the date and time of receipt as well as user identity information can also be forwarded (66).
