PURPOSE: To satisfactorily use a standard memory module by selecting a small value as 2<m> with respect to the standard memory module having 2<m> possible memory addresses and subjecting (x) and (y) address bits to such code conversion that one peculiar memory address unequivocally corresponds to each occurring image address. CONSTITUTION: If is it supposed that a partial image or an entire image B having 768 image points and 320 image rows should be stored, a value which is as small as possible and is larger than the product of a number (b) of image points and a number (z) of image rows is selected as 2<m> . Since the product of the number (b) of image points and the number (z) of image rows is equal to 245760, m=18 is selected. Consequently, a memory module having 2<18> =262144 possible memory addresses is required, and this standard memory module is constituted of 1024 columns and 256 rows. Thus, the standard memory module is satisfactorily used.
